The Importance of Self-Reflection for a More Fulfilling Life
Three Tips to Help You Reflect and Grow as an Individual
So when was the last time you took a moment to reflect on your life? Does it take something drastic for you to self-reflect and end up in a negative space? In this post, I'm sharing three main things I try to do constantly to reflect on my life. Hopefully, these tips can help you reflect on the present, appreciate what you've learned, and plan what you need to learn next.
The first method I use is to start with the basics. What am I doing currently? To give you some context, I'm an IT Director over software engineering, a father, a single man, and a small business owner. But during this moment, the titles and accolades mean nothing. Stay with me.
The second part is to look at how I feel about everything I've mentioned to myself. Keep in mind that this is me talking to myself. I try to focus on the good in everything. I've learned a lot to become all the things I've mentioned. I'm grateful to be a father first and foremost and hope for more in the future with a family. I'm happy in my role as an IT professional and I plan to expand on this more in the future. Finally, being a small business owner has given me so much in terms of self-confidence and fulfillment, so I plan on staying there as well.
Now, the third part is where I ask myself, "Where do I go from here?" Well, from the previous reflection, I've outlined so many things. So, how do I get better at all of them? Simple - take small bites at the apple. I have to take things one day at a time, one challenge at a time. As a father, what's most needed for today? Is it for me to be an active listener? Maybe someone to encourage? Or maybe someone to share a vulnerable story to relate to my child? All of these things add value to being a good father, so my approach is to try one good thing at a time. As an IT Director, how can I improve? One major thing that I thrive upon is creating processes and adding value. The focus is to find one new area each day to add value or constantly improve an existing area. Lastly, being a small business owner is a job of many hats, many hours, and many challenges. But the goal is to find one thing that truly serves your audience. Today, I chose to be more personal with you, share a bit of my life, and hope to hear if you can relate.
In summary, I want you, as the reader, to take away one thing from this post - the importance of self-reflection from a positive standpoint. No matter where you are on your journey, think about the amount of inputs it took you to get to the things you love about your life. Continue to build off those, learn from them, and share with a friend. In my future posts on handsome habits, I plan to focus on ways the average male or female can improve the quality of their life, starting with mindset.
Take care,
